Blog#19

Close to residential area sewage treatment facilities causes environmental risk and harm to my Bayview Hunters Point Community in SF.  The community’s environmental justice movement is aiming at having the public and private organizations address this disproportionate burden of risk of exposure to population in minority and low-income community. The community voices a lot of environmental justices’ concern to EPA, and I am aware of some existing specific standard regulations, but compliance remains a big issue. Adopting standard regulations without inspectors to reinforce the compliance is a waste of time. My option is that the particular regulatory agency has responsibility to enforce compliance to reduce environmental air pollution.

  1. Chika, you have wonderful ideas. Try to perhaps reach out to our fellow USF Don, Mayor Breed. Now that she has been re-elected for a full term, she could prove a valuable ally. I do believe that social justice is a core value for her. During her administration would be an excellent opportunity to really spearhead BVHP clean-up.
