Modern technology and medical advances have revolutionized
human population growth, raised reproduction ceiling and decreased mortality. Exponential
human growth impacts human carrying capacity which conflicts with the rule of ecological
footprint. Earth is a very big planet; however, space remains a real limiting
factor for human. Unlimited human population growth creates room for conflict
over how space is used between human and other non- human organisms, (animals,
trees, soil and water).
Exponential growth cannot go on forever, a balance between
human carrying capacity and ecological footprint is warranted. Nursing practice can play the role of a
regulating factor that keeps population size in equilibrium. Through community
education, nurses can help the targeted population understand the negative
impacts of exponential growth, such as poverty and increase mortality.
Supporting women’s advanced education will promote better
career choices than becoming mothers at their young age. Adequate birth control
education and empowering women to prolife/ pro-choice is for sure one-way nurses
can help control population explosion.
We see an example of limiting human population growth in China. The population is so impacted they are allotted a certain number of children, and if that number is exceeded, they are taxed.
ReplyDeleteCulturally, some nations do not believe in pro-choice. Additionally, some nations lack the resources to control population growth. Birth control is a luxury that we take for granted in America. Global equilibrium is needed; finding a way to control population growth to obtain global equilibrium is the solution.
